Football-Italy: Fully fit Vieri gives Inter important win

Samstag, 18. November 2000 / 18:21 Uhr

Milan - Striker Christian Vieri was back on target after an five-month fast to give Inter Milan a much-needed 2-1 win against hosts Perugia on Saturday.

Inter pushed ahead in the 9th minute thanks to an outstanding individual effort of Uruguayan Alvaro Recoba, but only 20 minutes later Perugia equalized with a great free kick by Marco Materazzi.

As in previous matches, Inter's game was grey with largely foreseeable attacks, but Vieri's aggressiveness and determination paid off and he managed to put in the deciding header on 79 minutes.
Vieri returned to the pitch three weeks ago after a five-month rehabilitation period following a thigh injury.

The win gives Milan supporters hope they will see an end to a long period of poor showings which had dropped Inter to 12th place before Saturday's match.
